Claustrofóbico

The deepest wine on Earth

Claustrofóbico.png

This wine was an adventure

We went back 200 years and revived an unexpected “aging method” that makes this wine one of the deepest.

The land and the river sheltered it, while time took care of its evolution. A cycle that allowed for surprising results.

Nature is generous.

3ª invasão francesa
The history behind this wine

Quinta da Casaboa is located in Runa. This place was the stage of the 3rd French invasion, at the beginning of the 19th century. According to records, and after what happened during the first invasion, the people, fearing the worst, hid their possessions—especially wine, which was the most important product of the Torres Vedras region.

As in the north of the country, bottles of wine were buried underground, in the belief they would not be discovered.

And they weren’t.
Thanks to the cunning, experience, and determination of the Duke of Wellington, who ordered the construction of 152 fortifications, known as the Lines of Torres Vedras, which stopped the advance of the French troops.

1810 - 1812

During his stay, the Duke of Wellington developed a refined taste for the wine produced in the municipality of Torres Vedras and, perhaps for that reason, was fascinated by the result achieved by the bottles of wine hidden underground.

Inspired by this “method,” we decided to go further - or rather, deeper.

We buried the bottles 2 meters below the surface, for 16 months, strategically placed between the vineyard and the Sizandro River.

A wine that celebrates life

The same historical reason gave rise to the “wine of the dead” in the north of the country during the first French invasion. But in the south, the allies gave us every reason to commemorate the victory and celebrate life.

This wine evokes courage in challenging times, the power of alliances, and the spirit of resilience.

At 2 meters below the surface, we found the right temperature and complete absence of light.

The sound of the river flowing and the birds chirping nearby broke the silence.

Beeswax was used to seal the corks, ensuring greater protection.

The wine seen from the outside

Made from recycled paper, the label is composed of two overlapping layers, symbolizing the layers of the ground. The bottle is left bare of the traditional capsule, highlighting a purer presence while also reducing its ecological footprint by eliminating tin.
