Buyer: "You say that the Alicante Bouschet grape variety, which makes up 80% of this wine, aged for 14 months in oak barrels. French or American?"
Producer: "Neither. It aged in Portuguese oak."
Buyer: "For what reason?"
Producer: "The first reason is that it's a national product, and it also gives the wine characteristics similar to French oak in terms of aging potential and structure. Moreover, the wood is more compact and less porous than French oak, allowing less oxygen to enter the barrel, which is suitable for a slow but long development, adding more personality to the wine. The goal is to make the wine more complex without the oak dominating. The use of Portuguese oak is rare, but that's also why we chose it. Additionally, we know that Portuguese oak is used in aging Carcavelos wine, Port wines, and some from the Alentejo region."
We remain committed to differentiation and producing positively unexpected wines.
